Modification of simian virus 40 protein A.
The A protein of simian virus 40 is phosphorylated in both productive and transforming infection. The phosphorylated amino acid has been identified as serine and has been localized in a single tryptic peptide of the protein. Because the A protein synthesized in infection by A mutants is phosphorylated to the same extent and in the same peptide as in infection by wild-type virus, the functional ...
متن کاملSimian virus 40 large tumor antigen: a "RNA binding protein"?
Simian virus 40 large tumor antigen was isolated by immunoaffinity chromatography from monkey or mouse cell cultures undergoing lytic or transforming infection. RNase-treated gel-purified large tumor antigen, on hydrolysis with alkali, gave about equimolar amounts of AMP, GMP, CMP, and UMP. Furthermore, RNA fragments of approximately 45 nucleotides could be isolated from large tumor antigen pur...
متن کاملControl of simian virus 40 gene expression in adenovirus-simian virus 40 hybrid viruses. Synthesis of hybrid adenovirus 2-simian virus 40 RNA molecules in cells infected with a nondefective adenovirus 2-simian virus 40 hybrid virus.
The effect of interferon on simian virus 40 (SV40) and adenovirus 2 (Ad2) T antigen synthesis has been examined in cells infected with SV40, with Ad2, and with a nondefective Ad2-SV40 hybrid virus, Ad2(+)ND(4). The induction of SV40 T antigen by SV40 was highly sensitive to interferon, whereas the induction of Ad2 T-antigen by Ad2 was resistant. This difference in interferon sensitivity was als...
متن کاملStimulation of simian virus 40 late gene expression by simian virus 40 tumor antigen.
The early simian virus 40 (SV40) gene product, large tumor (T) antigen, is responsible for the initiation of viral DNA replication and the autoregulation of early gene expression through direct protein-DNA interactions. We investigated the role of T antigen in late viral gene expression, independent of its function in amplifying templates through DNA replication. SV40 DNA was transfected into B...
متن کاملSuperinfection of simian virus 40-transformed permissive cells with simian virus 40.
Evidence that the resistance of simian virus (SV40)-transformed permissive cells to superinfection with SV40 is due to lack of virus uptake is presented. When virus uptake is enhanced, the events of infection proceed as in normal permissive cells, resulting in production of infectious virus.
